Apple tree - finally give up.

Planted 2 apple trees (Sunset) about 4 years ago. Been applying I believe to be good care. Have got to a point, I give up. Bugs and diseases have won, was aware of these issue when I got the plants but the care required is almost high maintenance and yielding results.  Currently covered in wooly aphids, rust, scab and mildew, probably have other issues too. For the aphids, I give it a good water squirt to remove them but they are always back. Leaves are getting discoloured, and most new growth have scab with tiny holes. So I give up. Was not expecting much, it’s still a youngish plant but riddled with issues. I believe I planted per the book, no plants near the base, good feed and mulch, plus regular water feed. Ahh well not green fingered enough for apples.

So sorry about your trees. We have a small orchard with many different apples etc and have not had the problems you have had. Are your trees in the ground or in planters?

Thanks for the post @bertrand-mabel, the tree is in the ground. The plants starts of well, looks healthy and lots of blossoms but with time issues start to appear, same happened lasted year.

I have a 50 year plus apple tree. Produced year after year, but a couple of years ago was attacked by wooly aphids - and despite all my efforts (which clearly are not enough) the tree looks like it's covered in cotton wool.
Not sure where they came from, or why the problem suddenly began, but sadly I may too have to call it a day - esp as it no longer seems to be producing any apples.

@THFC, thanks for the note. Sad to hear about your apple tree. I keep squirting the aphids with water. But makes little difference, they are back after a few days.
