Phlox Paniculata question.

Can I grow this in bright light with only direct evening sun?  I can't find anything specific about it online.

I've probably got about 20 of these around my garden.
Some get baked most of the day - the lower leaves tend to shrivel a bit, but otherwise they flower for months.
Most get a few hours of sun a day and they flower just as well, but without the crispy leaves :)
I find them very resilient in my garden and easy to divide in Spring to increase stock.

I've only got one, it's in a very sunny border and loves it - despite being ravaged by snails every year!!
I just bought another for a very hot dry border, but then I saw blue salvias which I've been hankering after.. that will have to go where the phlox was going - or I start de-turfing more of the front lawn. 😄

Mine are in a pretty dry, hot spot. They get no extra water through the summer and do ok - with a bit of crisping, as noted. I found they really don't like having a Chelsea chop and sulk for months after. But that might just be my garden.

I tried the Chelsea Chop on one plant once as an experiment and it didn't get the big first flowerhead, just lots of smaller ones that grew from the leaf axils.

I rarely Chelsea chop anything, I just pull the dead bits off the phlox as it goes on - I love it though, and I drink up the scent when it flowers.

In an ideal world they prefer moisture, mine don't do well in the drier parts of the garden, but thrive where it is damper.

@punkdoc it's bizarre really how different plants can be - my one is in an incredibly dry bed with loads of gravel, and I only water intermittently if it's been hot & dry for a few weeks.
Didn't think the slugs & snails would like it though!
