Gaps caused by vine weevils

Vine weevils have killed my pansies and violas, leaving gaps in containers. I'm guessing the soil will be full of them now? Are the remaining plants salvageable? Should I fill the gaps? What could I fill with them if so?

It seems to happen at this time of year to pansies and violas, I've just disposed of mine.  I'm not sure whether vine weevils are choosy in their diet but I'd be inclined to refresh the pot with some new compost.  The plants you have there look like spring flowering perennials so are now past their best.  I'd relocate them to a border if you have space and replant your pot with either Cosmos which are readily available or perhaps a Dahlia if your pot is in a sunny position.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
