Has my cercis Carolina sweetheart got a problem?

Hi I'm getting real worried about where to plant my cercis Carolina sweetheart it's still in its original pot from a nursery after 2 years as everywhere I position it. It ain't happy it's not root bound and maybe I should feed it with something other than miricle grow ericatious  balls,?. There is lots of swirling wind here and a LOT of sun I can't give it much shade I'm afraid. Leaves seem very small and hardly have any green in them so I'm afraid if I plant it ultimately it will turn out to be in the wrong place but know it can't stay in the pot forever.

Im afraid it won’t be happy until it’s planted properly in the ground … it looks as if it’s starving. Why are you using ericaceous feed?  It will not be getting all the nutrients it needs.

Show us photos of the whole garden and we’ll help you select the best spot for it, and give some hints on how to prepare the planting site properly, as I believe you’re on clay-ish  soil.

If it's still in the same pot you got it in 2 years ago, it'll be surprising if it's still alive.  :/
It should have had some help a year ago - bigger pot, better growing medium etc.
Even if watered correctly, it would be a struggle to keep it happy in that pot, and without enough nutrients, as @Dovefromabove says, it can't thrive long term.
The nutrients really need to come from the soil it's in, not an artificial feed, and there has to be enough soil to support it too.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

  • So for now to get it out of danger I guess put it in a bigger container and use John innes no.3?
