Slug, snail or caterpillar?

Hi, can anyone tell me what’s eating these leaves please? Whatever it is, only seems to have a go at certain plants but leaves the ones beside it alone

Well I do not see any slime trails anywhere so I would guess at caterpillars but then again I cannot see any caterpillars either. Have you tried looking at your plants when it gets dark and the slugs and snails can be seen more readily with a torch?

I think they’re dahlias,  that will be slugs,  they love them.

Slugs or snails. They love dahlias unfortunately.
The small ones are the worst. Having started growing them again in the last couple of years, I now remember why I stopped.  :/

  • @Dovefromabove - I noticed today that there were lots of cobwebs at the base of the pots, so I'm assuming caterpillars?
