Can I move dahlias?

Melanie48Melanie48 Posts: 2
Evening all,
I bought some dahlia bulbs this year and as they were beginning to sprout, I popped them into a large pot whilst I decided where they were going to go. Is it too late to transfer them to a bed now? They are probably 15cm high and no flowers. I'm sure I could get them out of the pot without too much root disturbance.
Thanks,
Mel

Yes - just be very careful when you take them out of the pot as the stems are very fragile and take care to support the tubers - they can snap off if they're quite big.
I Just planted some out today and gave them a very thorough watering.
Keep an eye out for slug damage.

Absolutely. The old man and I have had lots of health problems for months, some still have not been planted out. Sometimes I cheat and just pop the pot in the bed you do have to remember to water it! It means that they are a bit later flowering, just coming out now,but that's not a bad thing, they will flower till the frost
