Squash

Why am I not getting more squash from my blooms?   I put my behive near the squash and I see the bees in the blooms? Im only converting about 5%  of blooms?  Temps are in the upper 80s.  Plants are on drip

How many are male blooms and how many female? The females will have a small fruit behind the flower. It is usual to produce more male flowers at the start of the season.

Where are you?  Around here  they don't get planted out until early June because of Frosts.

I am in texas.  Because of the vine borer being a prevalent invasive species here.  It is reccomended we plant as soon as last frost is past and to continue to plant new seeds every two weeks.  We don't have a really good strategy to defeat it.  Hope you don't get it

Last year I tried doing the aforementioned treatments with no success.  This year I tried putting out two glue traps with the pheromones to entice the moths.  It has so far worked.

They need high quality feed, we found horse manure good.
Yorkshire, ex Italy and North East coast. Growing too old for it!
  • Curcubits are always iffy in England. Sometimes they just grow and  produce masses of fruit, other years everyone struggles to get fertilization or plant survival. My daughter has planted 4 squash in a square, 2 plants have so far produced 2 nucleus fruit, the other two have several fruit on each plant. Same variety, same treatment. No obvious explanation.
I sowed 4 seeds, lost two before planting out, almost lost the other two, managed to rescue them, then they produced lots of male flowers as per normal, one then collapsed while the remaining one is a very small specimen with two fruit set so far. I am not expecting great things from it.
