Visit to the Sussex Prairie garden yesterday. Saw a couple of goodies. If we had thought,we could have asked the owners, but it was so darn hot. We rested frequently on shady benches, had cream tea, bought plants. A rather lovely tall white nepeta named after me! And tall light blue Veronica. The last picture, the most incredible unusual leaves

I 've seen pic 2 before, but the name won't come to me.
Is it some sort of persicaria?

re Pic 2. I agree with @Lyn, Persicaria 'Purple Fantasy' or similar cultivar. but I don't agree with @Silver surfer, I think the flowers do belong to the leaves

2 is Persicaria "Purple Fantasy". Not sure whether the flowers belong to it. P. "Red Dragon" does have small white flowers like that, so it's plausible that "Purple Fantasy" has them as well but mine is new this year and I haven't seen it flowering yet.

I think it is P Purple Fantasy and yes I think the flowers are right. The flowers are slightly different to say P Bistorta.
