Fill void in garden before laying new turf
Hello - I've just removed a large, unruly lilac tree from the back of my garden and after removing the root system it has left a large void in the soil. There is about 6ftx6ft of bare border behind where the tree was which slopes downward about 2 feet towards the neighbours fence.
I want to lay a new lawn and make it longer so that it covers some of this space, however, how to deal with the dip in the ground?
I've removed anything rooty, rocky or stony and its now just bare dirt sloping away. When I remove the existing lawn can I just fill this area with topsoil to level it off? I think I will need a couple of tons and let it sit for a while. Or is there a better a way to level the ground before laying new turf?

How would it affect the neighbour's fence level wise ? Would it neatly align with the bottom of the fence or would it be a few inches up the side of the panel ?
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but l'm finding it difficult to envisage. Any chance of a photo?
