Help with Eucalyptus

Hi.
Our eucalyptus has started to show as per photos. It's in a large hole with compost but ultimately the garden is clay. It's fed regularly and watered. Is this disease or conditions please? Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hi Phil and welcome to the forum

I've not seen anything like that before on any sort of tree (but hopefully someone else here will have...?)
There are types of eucalyptus that have bark that turns shades of orange which is a natural and attractive feature, but there appears to be damage to the bark too on yours which would indicate possibly either a fungal or bacterial infection of some sort.
Is there any weeping from any of the wounds?
They are really robust trees and disease and/or infection is rare.

The bamboo pole is not a good idea.
It's best to stake your tree properly so that the roots are stable but the rest of the tree can move in the wind thereby strengthening the trunk using a proper stake and tree tie otherwise the trunk will be weak and fragile.

There's definitely no need to feed it.
If it's not yet established, it will need watering fairly often.
I had one that got to over 100ft in about 20yrs, so be warned.
My garden is Essex clay and the tree really thrived. It cost £1100 to have it removed about 15 yrs ago and I'm still waiting for the stump to fully disintegrate - there's now a depression where it was about 6-7ft across and up to 2ft deep!!
With hindsight it was a big (literally) and costly mistake.

Do you know the variety of eucalyptus?
Are there any symptoms on the leaves?
Could you post a pic of the whole tree too? - that may give us some clues as to what the problem is.

  • Many thanks.
I'll change the stake and try and get some more photos up. Many thanks.
