Fuschia tree - dead?

Does everyone think these bigger branches are dead? This time last year they had new growth and flowering, but I have been patiently waiting this year and still no sign. There's new growth from the bottom. It'll be such a shame if they are, and reluctant to cut them away if there's any chance or anything I could do to encourage them...

Yes,  it’s dead.🥲. Are those shoots around the bottom coming from it or is it just weeds. If it’s coming from the fuchsia you can cut down the dead trunks.
they’re usually pruned each year in the spring.

Yes, this last winter took off a lot of top growth. Cut out any branches with no leaves on, you will have new growth shooting  from the bottom to replace it.  That one was a bit huge.  New growth will rejuvenate it.

I think the top has gone, saw it off, give the new a chance.

I can’t make out if that’s fuchsia shoots from the ground, even blowing it up it goes blurred.  If it’s not fuchsia shoots then it’s dead as it would have made some growth by this time.

  • Above is a photo from two years ago. Thanks for all your comments. It's definitely fuschia growing from the bottom. The previous owner left it to overgrow - when we moved in, I would trim the top down to level with the wall and any other old branches every spring. Below are two photos this time last year. Even though it annoyed the other half because he had to sweep the leaf litter off the deck nearly every day, I loved it. Gutted, the bees loved it but at least I definitely know now. Thanks everyone!
