Aphids

It's ok having a few on plants for wildlife. Have noticed house sparrows picking away at them now. That's why I'm not using chemicals 🙂
  • Maybe a few more aphids than usual here this year but I have seen some ladybirds, and hover flies seem to be getting more active. Also seen some small birds landing on plants and it is probably aphids they are eating so I think the garden is going to sort out the issue of extra aphids on its own. Got some good dense hedgerow and shrub areas now with plenty of potential nesting sites for small birds. Saw some aphids a few months back in big numbers on a young bird cherry tree and thought it best to leave them as predator food and not seen anything else show much sign of aphid damage.
    Happy gardening!

The birds just eat any here, although I don't get as many as some other people probably get, because I don't grow lots of 'soft' plants to start with.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Loads of black fly on the cherry but yesterday I noticed several ladybird larvae, my three year old thought they were very exciting (so did I) and she couldn't guess what they would be.
