Jute netting shorter than advertised

I ordered a jute net for my peas and beans from Gardening Naturally, advertised as 2m wide x 5m long. I haven’t check the length as 5m was well over what I needed but the 2m turned out to be 1.75m. I have reported this to Gardening Naturally but wondered if anyone else has had this issue? Incidentally I had to buy a net as one I was given as a gift also turned out to be too narrow (even  narrower than the supposed 2m one despite also being advertised as 2m!)

Maybe they give the stretched measurement.

    Even stretched it is narrow

I used run a workshop showing how to weave nets for use in the garden. I did two versions - the "ghetto" version and the proper woven fishing net version which required the use of a shuttle.

The net in the picture above looks like the ghetto version where vertical strings are tied together by horizontal pieces of string (like a noughts and crosses table), whereas, fishing nets are essentially constructed using one continuous length of string.

The width error may come about if the creator of the net started with 2m pieces of string but didn't take into account the knots which would take up some of the string.

The drawback to using jute string is that it will only last one season outdoors. The advantage is that it composts really well so you don't have to mess about when it comes to clearing up time at the end of the season.

In any case, learn how to make the net yourself. It's not really that difficult.

I don't know how high your support is, but if you have 5m x 1.75m would it work if you turned it the other way round?

Thanks. I have had to stretch additional ties across to the frame from the net and hope there’s still enough net for me to train the peas onto.

I have sort of made it work but just wondered if anyone else had bought one and had the same problem
