Cornus Kousa shrivelling up

Hope there is someone who can help with this. I have had a Cornus Kousa 'Miss Satomi' for 4 years. It has never done that well until this year when it flowered well. It has now started to shrivel up. I can't think it is dry as the shrubs either side are fine and we live in a wet part of the country.  Can anyone help please?

The more planting there is, the more competition for that moisture, so that can be why problems don't occur until shrubs [in particular] mature enough.
Even consistently wet parts of the country have been experiencing very dry conditions - we've had terrible heat and dry weather here for example, which has caused huge problems with water reserves and wildfires etc.  :/

How much room does it have around it?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

There also seems to be grass and hedging - that can also have a big impact on moisture levels.
Unless there's obvious damage somewhere on individual branches, that looks very much like thirst, and/or the effects of hot sun on new growth.
It can also take a lot of effort for shrubs to produce their flowers, so that can also be a factor as it can cause extra stress.
It's worth checking the moisture levels around it, because rain has to be heavy enough to get through the canopy.  Lots of organic matter added to the bed/border is also worth doing so that the soil is in good condition and can retain moisture in drier spells  :)

  • Thank you, that's very useful. I'll give it a good soaking
