Tree Fern Problem, Is it dead?

Hey everyone!
So around a month ago I'd purchased 2 tree fern trunks. One around 3ft and the other around 1ft tall.
The larger one is growing really fast but the smaller one hasn't changed from the day I'd purchased it. Not sure if it's dead? or if I haven't planted it deep enough.

Anyone got any ideas as I'm lost with with one? 😩

There definitely looks like some new fronds emerging from the crown.  Mine were about a month later to emerge this year.  I would probably put your trunk slightly deeper than you have it, about 3-4 inches below the soil.  The most important thing is to keep the crown and trunk moist.  I water mine every day.  Diluted seaweed extract poured into the crown and onto the trunk once a week also helps.  I would also surround the base of the trunk with a mulch of organic matter to ensure good water retention.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
