Good morning,
I have had a go at propagating lavender. My first time ever trying to propagate a plant and out of 4 u tried 2 seem to be doing well with new shoots as per pic. They feel quite sturdy in the pot. When should I move them to their own pot?
Thanks

  • I would wait until roots show through the bottom of the pot, then tip them out, separate them carefully and put into small individual pots, using the same kind of compost. Keep them damp but not wet. Better on the dry side, especially during the winter. Keep them under cover , on a window sill, for the winter. They do not need much heat but do need shelter from cold and wet. If they are a reasonable size next Spring, pot them on into slightly larger pots ang grow them on for another year before planting out in the garden. Maybe even potting them on again mid summer.
No feeding. I have discovered my lavender growing in the garden last longer if I give them a light dusting of lime each year. My soil is thin, gritty and slightly acidic to neutral and the bushes are in full sun all day.
