Onion seedlings

should I trim these a bit when planting into their own pots? I've heard mixed reports about it... I'd only trim off about 20% to 30% of the "leggy" green strands if I did.

What type of onions are they? It's a bit late for maincrop onions. I wouldn't trim them, but they need to go somewhere with more light.

@rlew, I've never trimmed spring onions, only leeks. They still look a bit small for potting on, where are they growing, at this time of year they're better off outside.

They've had optimal light too.. been by a well lit front bedroom for a few weeks. I've put then into their own cell in a 9 pack now, not trimmed off much. On the flip side I experimented with using Tomato Suckers and they've done extremely well!

Im afraid that even a well lit front bedroom has nothing like the amount of light needed to prevent etiolation in most plants … hence the drawn floppy appearance of your onions … get them outside asap … not in full sun to start with … it’ll be too much for them.

So once germinated, could I put them in the veg trug outside? How long should it take to reach harvest size?

Sow them direct outside. They don’t need to be indoors at all. They should be ready to start harvesting 8-10 weeks after sowing.

They haven't done well at all I'm afraid. They should be 2ft tall with tomatoes on them by now.
