I've given up with Decorative Bark

I remember now why I stopped using Bark years ago for my pots to retain moisture and weed control etc.

The Thrush and Blackbirds go wild looking for grubs etc buried in the bark covering and scatter it all everywhere.

Which is better, going back to Horticulture grit or larger 10mm chippings etc...

For pots, horticultural grit or decorative pebbles work well.  I’ve stopped putting bark on my borders for the same reasons!

Funny you should mention this as I moved a potted Acer yesterday and woke up to a mess of bark today!

I find the birds delve about in any size bark (2 borders like this) but I still like it for its other properties, plus it looks smart.

I only use bark on paths because it can be home to slugs and other pests. Every 3 years or so when it needs replaced I rake it up and mulch with it then. Obviously not being the same volume having decomposed it doesn’t cover the same area but it looks ok, keeps the weeds down and moisture in. More importantly there’s no noticeable pests in it.
