I found this beauty at a NT shop today. It took me 30 minutes to free some roots hoping the plant seizes the chance and makes me happy. The leaves look like a penstemon.

Many thanks in advance.

Lychnis chalcedonica aka Maltese Cross. One of the campions.

I will definitely keep it either this plant if it makes it or I buy a new one (no 3 or 4) next year. It’s just my colour.

Usually sets copious seed so easy enough to keep it going. It does tend to be a bit short lived.
  • Thanks @Palustris. If I don’t get it through, Cilternseeds have them otherwise I try to get seeds from my one.

I had one in France that lived for several years. It grew into quite a big clump.

Me too in my Belgian garden so I brought a couple of plants here when we moved and some seeds but they are shorter lived here and I have only one plant this year so will nurture it and collect seed.

  • Mine have been in place for many years so they seem to last a long time when they are happy, mine are facing west in slightly alkaline clay. I am growing more from seed.
