Can anyone help with identification of this

Would anyone be able to assist in identifying this, which has appeared on a fence panel which is starting to rot.  I think possibly it might be a fungus or a eggs of something?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Hello emma.c.616 and welcome to the Forum. It looks very much like a slime mould - possibly in the Tubifera family - and what a great picture!

  • Thank you so much for the quick response. My initial thought was this is a type of fungus, given it appeared on rotting wood. A google image search didn't bring any results, other than oddly enough desserts, so Robert is not alone! 😂

I just had a look at Tubifera and I think you might be right.

    Thank you!

    You are most welcome.
@Robert West you just brought back an unhappy memory of disgusting white school puddings that either resembled wallpaper paste or white frogspawn.

Didn’t they usually have a dollop of watery red jam in the middle?

Eek yes @Dovefromabove! I used to stir that until the whole white mess was pale pink then I still refused to eat it! To this day I still cannot eat anything in the sago, tapioca semolina style puddings. I can JUST about tolerate rice pudding.

Join the club! I didn't have to be subjected to "school puddings" but I wasn't spared as my mother was very fond of making semolina and rice puddings along with the blob of jam in the middle. Had no choice but to eat it. The thought now turns my stomach.

I love rice pudding and often make one,  but that tapioca makes me 🤮 even with the dollop of jam in the middle.
