Growing cannas from seeds

SwedboySwedboy Posts: 394
Hi all,

I've been given some canna seeds by a colleague from work and wonder what is the best way of germinating them. Some places say you need to soak them until they germinate, others that you just need to make a cut in the shell and plant them or both. What would you recommend? I know it is late in the season to do this but it can't harm trying and they over winter any that germinate.

I usually "nick" them with a pair of nail clippers, then soak them in warm water overnight.

I file them with a nail file and then soak like @Hostafan1

I do the same as Hostafan as he gave them to me.  They all germinated.

For a moment I thought no one had responded and then I looked in my spam folder! I think I'll try the nail clipper route. Thanks

Beware of slugs the minute they shoot.
