I have been away on holiday for 2 weeks and I have been worried sick about my veg plants etc. Everyone is aware of how warm and dry it has been, on my return I found most stuff alive, but I am concerned about my 4 year plum tree, there was when I departed a hell of a lot of green fruit beginning to show, but on my return the branches are arching dangerously, maybe just with the weight, but could it be due to lack of water? since my return I have given all my apple and the plum a few buckets of water and feed, do any of you think all will be well, I mean should I support the branches? they are only 22mm thick.

If it is a young tree, you probably need to thin the fruit out so that the individual plums do not touch each other. Having too many plums on a young tree will result on broken branches.
  • Yes - I'd remove most of the fruit, give it another few buckets of water, and not feed it.

As @fidgetbones says if it is a young tree then watering is needed. Our plums are over 8 years old and we don't water them now as their roots (hopefully) are down in the ground enough to take up water.
Even in this hot weather we haven't noticed any branches broken or hanging down but again that could be because they are older.
