Apples

Not many apples on my tree, it's usually loaded. Anyone else had the same?

Look after the ones that you have and they will grow big and delicious, quality over quantity.

Our Beurre Hardy pear last year was covered in blossom but no fruit set. This year again loads of blossom and so far fruits have set. Plums are doing great and some of our apples are having a year off but most at the moment are producing fruit. But will it last? Not sure as we haven't had "real" rain now for some 6 weeks. The quince in the garden is OK but in the orchard little fruit showing.

I have 2 cider apple trees about 4 metres apart, one is fully laden with fruit, the other has none. My eating and cooking varieties are both laden and my Chinese quince has at least 50 fruits this year, previously I have never got more than 10.
  • Our Red Falstaff apple is well endowed with fruit. Last year was exceptional, with a huge crop. When that happens, I expect a lean year to follow. Not the case it seems.

  • My apple is overloaded this year but scant last year. How do I break the cycle?
