Please diagnose my lavender

We bought two lavender plants a couple of weeks ago, which looked lovely and healthy. I think we have made the mistake of overwatering as they have lost vibrancy and are looking droopy and sad. Pictures attached - are they doomed?

I suspect the water is running down the outside and the rootball is dry. Dunk the whole lot in a barrel of water if you can.  I suspect if you lift the plant the rootball is dry.  If you can't dunk the whole pot ful, lift the plant and put it in a bucket of water.

I would pull the plant up and check the roots - if they are soggy then let it dry right out. The soil needs to be very free-draining so add grit to compost and raise pots on feet. If you have just used compost then that is too rich and will stay too soggy around the root.

    I hope you can revive.

In addition to advice above, I would ask what sort of compost you’ve used?

Lavender, along with most Mediterranean plants, need a gritty loam-based growing medium without too much in the way of nutrition … I would use John Innes No 2 with the addition of horticultural grit at a ratio of 4:1.

The containers need to be raised on pot feet or pieces of tile to ensure that the drainage holes in the base can run freely and don’t get blocked.

ETA … ah I see @AuntyRach has covered most of that 😊
