Echium pininana

Last year we were given an Echium Pininana by a neighbour, it was about 2ft high - now it is about 16ft plus with lovely mauve petals - the bees love it !
However, I have read that the plant is slightly toxic, and the petals are dropping onto our vegetable growing area.
I am a bit concerned that the petals may contaminate the soil around our food crops !
I am not a serious gardener, and I would welcome any comments regarding my concerns.

Plants do not absorb toxicity from each other … as long as you don’t eat your echium you’re perfectly fine. We’ve had them in our veg patch all tangled up with our runner beans, chard and squashes for several years. No ill effects. 😃
