Callistemon (Bottle Brush) and Abutilon 'Waltz' - dead?

I'm in Cambridge so had a very harsh winter - sub zero for a week in December. My callistemon and abutilon, both in a raised bed and sheltered spot, look dead. I've been holding on for signs of life. Am I being overly optimistic and should I dig them up now?
