Moving dwarf? Rhododendron from pot to the garden?

GraysGrays Posts: 172
Hi all,
We have this beautiful Rhododendron (dwarf?) in a pot which we have had for well over 10 years I think, we have already repotted it to a bigger pot once a few years back and it is very healthy and seems happy where it is, but I can help think it is now too big for the pot its in?
So...... do you think its time to make room in a border and move it there, freeing up the pot for an azalea that doesn't seem too happy in the pot it is in.
The last thing I want would be to lose it, will it take in the garden soil as I know they like ericacious compost and soil?
Anyone got any advice or tips? Or would I just be better getting an enormous pot for it?
Cheers.

I wouldn't plant a mature shrub of any sort at present. The long range weather forecast is a concern especially if we have a drought.
Keep it well watered and cool. Do you know if they will grow in your soil, do the neighbours grow them in the ground?
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Thank you,
I am not sure if the neighbours grow them tbh, I can ask.
It can stay where it is for now then, its very healthy and happy (feed it every 10 days or so) as it is, and has a good growth spurt on it at the moment.
The answer could be a bigger pot maybe?
    Thanks.
