Grey stuff on hedges

Round here , Co Armagh, hedges are covered in grey stuff , looks like dead bushes underneath , any ideas ? 
I can’t get a pic as nowhere to stop on country roads

    Very hard without a pic. Possibly the remains of seedheads from trees, especially willows, or something similar? We've had a lot of catkins etc blown into heaps here because it's been so dry.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Thank you Fairygirl , my Daughter told me that she thought it was cobwebs. But I saw it a week later and thought it was webs or fungus , today she tells me it has spread and looks like the hedges are dying

    I’ve asked Google ! Seems it might be the ermine moth , hedges will recover !

    It may well be that then.
    Impossible without knowing a lot more about the hedging too, as well as seeing a pic.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    I think it’ll be the webs spun by the caterpillars of the Spindle Ermine moth. The caterpillars spin the web and live together under it, eating the hedge leaves … Euonymus aka Spindle is their favourite.
