Leek rust, harvest now or wait?

    Even though Ive had bad rust this year, Im thinking of applying a very heavy mulch of compost/soil over the top of the bed, and planting garlic again in the same bed. My thinking is that if the spores are transferred from soil to leaves, a heavy mulch will prevent this from happening.
    Having said that, I dont see mention of this as being a solution on any website. So perhaps spores are transferred another way(?)
