I've not had too much bother with slugs on basil, but as mine are only outside for some of the day, that's easier. We have loads of slugs though, and lettuce is always a problem, so if you have any trays, with enough depth for an inch or so of water, you can put the basil pot up on a brick or an upturned empty pot, or anything similar, in that and it acts like a moat which the slugs can't cross. I've had a pot of lettuce in a seed tray, just raised on a couple of offcuts of wood, and that works well. Last year, I had a trough of lettuce, and that was up on two pots, 1 at each end, in a round tray, about an inch depth, that was from an old barbecue. Really made a difference. You just have to make sure there are no slugs in the pots to start off with

You just have to make sure there are no slugs in the pots to start off with
