Well behaved bamboo

Is there such a thing? I have a spot in my garden where a bamboo would look great. But am I making problems for myself?

Fargesia. Clump forming, slow spreading, separate by cutting through the root ball every few years. 👍

I bought a Phyllostachys, ordinary green stemmed. It took a long time to run, but did eventually. I cull it ruthlessly for bean poles.

I agree about Fargesia.  I've had a clump for well over 30 years.  It expands slowly but has never thrown out runners.  Phyllostachys can be controlled/contained but there is always the risk of one making a bid for freedom and going unnoticed.

As Slow worm and KT says, I had mine for years,  never spread out of its own clump.  They don’t run.

Many thanks all. Will take a look at Fargesia.
