Wisteria advice please

in Plants
Hi there,
Finally decided to dare getting one of my favourite plants and after a house move bought a wisteria this spring and have it in a pot in our south facing garden.
I had left it in the pot to see whether this is enough of a sunny spot and so far it seems to be loving it.

Now I would like to put it in the ground but am worried that it might get upset about the move.
Could I please ask for some advice on when would be best to put it in the ground?

Also any other wisteria advice would be greatly appreciated 😊 it is such a beautiful plant and I am hoping for it to grow up and around the garage and our gazebo in the years to come.

As it's in a pot and will need watering daily in hot spells as well as regular feeds, you may as well plant it out now in a well-prepared planting hole and then it has all summer - with regular watering - to start getting its roots down. You'll need to prepare the planting hole and the surrounding soil by removing any weeds and their roots and then adding plenty of organic matter to improve fertility and moisture retention.
Do this for a planting hole that's twice as deep and at least 3 or 4 times as wide as that pot so the roots are encouraged to go down and find food and water. This will also avoid creating a sump thar retains water and will rot the roots. Do not plant it right up against the house wall as this will reduce access to moisture as it'll be in a rain shadow. try an plant it 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45cms) minimum away from the wall.
Make sure you have provided a strong support so you can train in new growth as horizontally as possible as this makes a good structure and improves flower production. The wisteria trunk and branches will, over the years, thicken and harden llike tree trunks and branches so flimsy trellis will not do. Tensioned wires stretched across vine eyes scrwed into the wall will be fine as long as you tie the stems loosely to them and don't wind them round the wires as they'll swallow them up and grow round them.
There's a pruning regime you need to follow in the early years to promote flowering. Have a look a this link which explains it - https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/wisteria/pruning-guide
Finally, give your wisteria an annual dressing of fertiliser every spring, mulch in autumn if you can and never let it get thirsty in hot, dry spells and droughts. Watering deeply with 10 to 15 litres, once or twice a week, is better than a daily dribble.
and thank you for the warm welcome @GardenerSuze
