Yellowish Leaves

Hi, can anyone please help me? I have, in April, sown a large number of Ranunculus corms in troughs for my daughter's wedding in 5 weeks. They seemed to be coming on well ( but doubtful will be in bloom by 8th July), however over the last week or so many have developed yellow or even brown leaves. Does anyone know why this is happening?
Many thanks
Frances

They probably need potting on. It's perfectly normal for lower leaves, in particular, on any plant to brown and drop, but if the plants are crowded, that causes stress due to lack of water and nutrients, so it's more likely to happen.
They certainly look very crowded, and will be more likely to grow and thrive more quickly if they have better conditions to grow in. It's worth splitting them up and giving them all more room. I used to have them at about 4 or 5 to a ten inch pot   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
