    The first one is a hypericum, the second is a dianthus. Dianthus likes sun. The hypericum that I'm familiar with seems to grow just about anywhere but yours could be a different variety.

    Yes! I have two hypericums mostly in shade, one up the road is in full sun - all grow well.

    Hypericum can be a bit of a thug, so watch out for that.
    Gardening in East Suffolk on dry sandy soil.
