Bare root perennials not growing

I bought two discounted bare root perennials packs from Wilko two weeks ago, phlox mix of 3 and aquilegia mix of 3, £1.25 each pack. I soaked the roots for 5hrs in water, then potted them up in compost and put in the cold frame. I've been keeping the soil moist, but so far there is no sign of growth at all. Have I wasted my £2.5? Any tips on how to grow bare root perennials pls? Thanks!

Did they have growth on them when you bought them,  they should be outside really.
I think you may have wasted the money, Aquilegia wouldn’t like being sold as bare roots,  you could grow some from seeds if you’re keen.

Thanks! No they didn't have any new growth when I bought them. I do have some Aquilegia seeds, though an earlier batch sown in Apr didn't germinate. I'll try sowing another batch.  :)

You could sow your Aquilegia seeds at the end of September,  leave out in your cold frame and they should germinate early spring.
