Lawn Levelling

Hi all, I have a very lumpy uneven lawn and plan to renovate it later in the year using topsoil and seed. I have three drains in my lawn, how do I manage these? Will I need someone to build them up with brick a bit to bring them up to the new lawn level? Thanks

  • You could make a small mound around the outside of the drains - so that any water slopes either off the lawn and onto the drain or back into the lawn - as opposed to sitting on the edge. Hopefully the top soil won't increase the height of the lawn too much though.

Unfortunately, your query had no replies @sking5. Have you got a photo of the site, and the drains?
No matter what they're like - ie open, or a covered one, you'll need to make sure whatever you do is viable. You certainly can't pile soil up around an open drain, as soil will just get washed into it. If it's closed, and I expect that's what you mean,  and has a cover, it would be better to have a proper surround, but it depends on just how much you need to raise the lawn level.
However, as it's mid September, I expect you've probably done the job by now. Hope you got a good solution.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
