composting against the garage brick wall

Ive got a 6*4 space empty behind my garage which doesnt get much sunlight and is secluded from my house. I was wondering if I can use it for composting? can composting affect the garage wall( brick wall)?

Or would it be a better idea to do it in a container?

Do it in a container. You should get a couple of dalek like bins in that space.  Wet compost up against a brick wall will breach the damp proof course and lead to damp where you don't want it.

I would use containers for the reasons that @fidgetbones gave, but the aspect will be fine. My compost bins are on the north side of our garage which is the far side from the house so they only get sun from the west (front of the plot) in the late afternoon/evening, and not much at all in the winter.
