What plant is this?

A neigbour gave us a couple of tomato plants which we put in an outside tub.  They are doing better than the ones we had in the greenhouse last year!  We have noticed something growing at the back of the tub and wondered what it is.  I think that it is some kind of vegetable plant but the OH thinks that it's a weed.  Can anyone identify what it is please?

You may get more answers if you start your own thread @stephenelson63YKWKhyup.
The first looks like a hebe and the third is a rosemary.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Could you expand on the stem from the roots of the tomatoes please?  What will happen to it?  Should I take it up?

I've never come across this before.

    Thanks
