Newly planted privet hedge

Hi everyone
I've taken the mad or brave decision to plant six hedges along the back of my garden.  Got them.planted last weekend.  Wondering if I've made a mistake with all this dry weather.

Anyway I want to make the best of this and just want to ask advice and for any tips on what I can do to give these hedges the best chance .

Your thoughts and suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thank you 🙂

What do you mean by 'six hedges' ? Do you just mean 6 plants?
Plenty of water - a bucketful for each one every few days. Not light watering every days which does more damage than good.
A good mulch afterwards with bark or similar, to help preserve the moisture. You'll have to be very vigilant over the next few months with watering, unless you get regular, 'proper' rainfall.
I'm assuming the ground was well prepped first. The prep is every bit as important as what happens after you plant.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • @Fairygirl hi thanks for getting back to me, yes 6 young plants.  I wasn't around when the ground was being prepped, what I can say is that there were paving stones where the hedge plants are now planted using existing soil and some compost.

In light of your feedback I've ordered more bark, compost and manure too.

They were only planted last Saturday so hopefully not too late to give them some thorough TLC

Here's a pic taken this morning...
