Looking for Potentilla in Derbyshire area.

If anyone can help at all, I'm looking for a large, mature Potentilla in the Derbyshire area.

I've found smaller ones in local garden centres but I'm after an older one with a thicker trunk for bonsai training.

@1945crewood Green Mile Trees Retford, Bluebell Arboretum both a long shot. Landscape gardeners often have access to larger plants when they buy wholesale. Perhaps you have one locally.

I think you are likely to find smaller specimens in the Garden Centres, as you say they do get thicker with age and they are not so attractive. Gardener often prune them for that reason.

You are probably looking at hauling yourself around the Garden Centres and just looking for yourself - you are more likely to have success at an independent GC than Blue Diamond etc I think. Potentilla isn't normally sought after as a mature 'characterful' plant so if you find one it's probably going to be one that has been hanging around unsold and forgotten in some far flung corner of the nursery!

Round here (Nottingham) I'd sniff around Frost's Plant Centre (although they aren't as good for this sort of thing as they used to be), Hilltop, Bardills; going a bit further out towards Loughborough, Sulneys, Miles Nursery.

I've checked their stocklist and Miles Nurseries have them in 5L pots, which are at least going to be a bit bigger than the average.  Miles Nurseries Ltd - Miles Nurseries, Trade and retail plants for Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire & the East Midlands (miles-nurseries.co.uk)
