I know I know... I slipped up. I did and do know what I should do. I just I don't know... As I said I did put paper, wood chips, straw even the occasional twigs. But not enough.
I don't think there is anything else to add now.
Apart from that I will have to train the husband too...

If you just check on it now and again @REMF33, you'll see whether it's breaking down or not, and you can add whichever thing it's a bit short on. If it's soggy, you need more newspaper/cardboard/paper etc, and if it's a bit dry and 'rough' you need more greens - grass and plant clippings/food waste etc.
I have more garden 'stuff' later in the year because annuals are finishing, so if that's something you're short of, it's worth growing a few more of those sweet peas  ;)
Deadheading is always useful for plant material though, so if you're not collecting seed, that's always good too.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I do know what to do. As I said I just didn't do it properly! I always have plenty of garden stuff... :o

I know you know this... but the way I make sure I don't put kitchen stuff in the hotbin without the requisite amount of brown is literally that - if I don't have the shredded paper etc to hand, I don't allow myself to put the kitchen stuff out. Which reminds me - I should do that in a mo. Hope the smelly stuff is becoming less smelly by now!

    Thanks, @LG_
I think putting most of it in the compost bin helped, but the stuff I spread on the raspberry bushes is still wiffy. I think not quite as bad but maybe I am just  getting used to it :o  I mean it has to stop smelling at some point?!? At least it is a long way from the parts of the gardens that people sit in.
I just created a nice bucket of garden waste (weeds, 'dirt', leaves, twigs. Perfect?!?) but OH put it in the council Brown bin before I could use it. Ah well. I suppose I could scoop some out later.
I was really mortified last night about the neighbour but am getting over it...

Personally, if your bin smells like a dead aminal I would probably just bag the contents up and throw it out and start again.

You can buy or find a bag of fine wood chip to add to your bins in future, as a bulking agent. It's pretty much free.

It's worth reading up on greens and browns. Go for roughtly half and half.

Thanks. The way forward is clear.

I can understand about the neighbour, but it's not as if you did it on purpose and you're doing something about it so you can hold your head high 🙂
Sounds like you need a few signs (Keep off! This is for the hotbin!') for your OH 😉
