Can anyone help identify these plants?

We've recently moved and in an area of our new garden that we haven't touched yet, these have been growing for a while. We've let them grow, but we are wondering what they are. There is now what appears to be grain developing on what we had thought was just long grass. And we are curious what the plant with the larger leaves is. Any hints/advice on what they might/what we should do with them would be much appreciated. Thanks

The grass is wheat, probably from bird seed. Cheap mixtures are bulked out with wheat and the small birds just chuck it out.  The broad leaved one has a look of horseradish, but mine is already flowering, so maybe not.

Possibly verbascum for the non-grass one? Maybe leave it until it flowers and post another picture, then we'll be able to give a better ID.

@fidgetbones Agree with you about wheat and I also thought that the 2nd photo was horse radish.

I agree wheat and horseradish - flowering is coming late on so many plants this year, it'd be hard to judge anything on that at the moment.

I think the large leaved plant could be Inula or elecampane. There is a shoot on the right which is just coming up to flower.

  • Thank you all very much for your help :) . I'll try and post another photo if the larger plant does flower. As for the wheat, that would make sense if it was part of bird feed, the previous owners of the house did have chickens, so perhaps could be from the feed for them. Thank you all again  :).
