Whats up with my sedum and veronicas?

ChriscoreChriscore Posts: 155
As you can see the veronicas leaves have started to turn yellow. This has happened over the past month. Water levels seem to be reading moist for the most part however I haven't watered them in a couple of weeks. Some of the sedums leaves have gone pale and limp. Again I thought maybe they were too wet so have held off watering them for this past few weeks. However my other sedum has recently developed similar signs. When I planted them In early april I mixed lots of grit/sand/compost to make sure they would have good drainage. Anyone know what's wrong with them or what I can do?

Veronicas need plenty of water. Perhaps that's a problem for your sedum too but it looks ok to me.

Not knowing where you are based I will offer this theory. It has been cold at night in some areas and this could have impacted your plants. Flaming June and I am still wearing a fleece but plants out in the open don't have that choice and some are struggling.
I note you use holly prunings as defence. Works wonderfully.

Is your soil clay? Even with added drainage they would struggle in my garden.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Mine does well in clay so long as I keep it watered

Is there a large tree nearby that's sucking the ground dry?

hah, yes it really does! I am in the south west UK and tbh it hasn't been cold here for at least a weeks.

There is a small holly, but the soil seems fairly moist about an inch or two below the surface.

They look ok to me . Maybe just need more water if as you say it’s been dry weather where you live . It’s still wet and cold here ,1 st June and 12 deg ………I blame global warming .

Your sedum looks OK to me - the odd pale leaf is not a problem unless you find it spreads to affect the whole plant.
Dryish soil will suit them and they will also flourish even when surrounded by other plants.  The key is the aspect-SW facing, reasonably free draining soil. Lack of water will be obvious if the whole plant starts to droop
I'm in the SW too and it has been cool overnight and a stiff NE wind during the day for the last week.  Sedums still thriving tho so you should be OK :)
