Hedge problem -Need help please

Hi there, we have a hedge at the front of the garden which helps with privacy. Normally trim it a few times a year. As you can see the right hand side of the hedge is normal, but the left hand side seems to have died. Just wondered what is the cause and anything we can do to help the situation. It provides privacy so keen to keep it, if at all possible. Thanks

The right hand side looks like a type of Cotoneaster to me. Was the dead section the same variety?

Yes, I believe the hedge is a Cotoneaster. The left hand side seems to have died away but most of it seems ok. Just be good for some advice of what has caused it and what we can do if possible to cure it.
