Moving plants

Have to move several plants for three days due to work in garden. Should I leave them in water or pot into compost?

I would plonk each one into a pot and tuck some compost around the roots, but it doesn't need to be good stuff. The rubbishy peat-free will be fine, or any old stuff that you might have. Then if the work overruns they'll be OK for a while as long as you water them as necessary.

The roots need air as well as water or they’ll drown. Damp compost will be fine.

@Jennifer80 You may need to water your plants throughout the summer and into autumn. They will need time to settle and put down roots again.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
