Wheelbarrow planter

Harold15Harold15 Posts: 15
I am replacing my wheelbarrow planter, as my old one is rotting and beyond repair. I used a black bin bag as a liner, and I was wondering if there is something better thet I could use.

You could use pond liner, which is often quite inexpensive, but you probably wouldn't need much, so that could be tricky. Compost bags or similar are fine too. Heavier than standard bin bags  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

You could also treat the wood with a preservative, oil, paint or stain.  Your liner should protect the plants from the preservative etc.  I sometimes use weed suppressing membrane in some of my containers.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Thank you for your reply. I have some empty bags that had gravel in them. They are a lot stronger than bin bags. I will tailor one of these to fit.

I have some teak oil which I hope will be okay. I will also empty the wheelbarrow in the winter, and store it in my shed, and treat it before using again.

The gravel bags sound ideal ,you won’t forget to make a couple or so of drain holes will you ? My neighbour didn’t think of that and she ended up with a barrow full of floating plants after a cloud burst !

You are  quite right. I always  drill a few  holes  in the  floor  of the  planter as well.
