Yellowing leaves on Gertrude Jekyll climbing rose

Every single leaf on my lovely Gertrude Jekyll rose has turned a uniform yellowish green. It has been happening slowly and they are no other signs of problems.

Gertrude is a in her 3rd year and happily blooming in a very big container. I fed her in spring with Toprose.

There is no chance she could be under-watered but maybe I am overwatering her? Should I try a soil moisture tester? I never know how damp the earth is supposed to feel…

I would appreciate any advice

Hello and welcome to the forum 😊

What sort of compost is Gertrude planted in?

Yellowing leaves can be a symptom of nutrient deficiency, especially iron and magnesium.  Try giving your rose a foliar spray and a general watering of Epsom salts - 15ml of salts diluted in 5 litres of water.   It certainly won't do any harm and can be a great boost to many plants.

Would seaweed extract work as a helpful foliar feed?

Seaweed is a good allrounder for many plants.

The most common cause for leaves being plain yellow like that without green veining or streaks is over or underwatering. Can you put your fingers down into the compost a few inches to see if it's wet or dry? A soil moisture tester would help. When you water a rose in a pot it is much better to give a bucketful every few days than a sprinkle everyday.

I put my finger into the compost every day and it feels damp - and then I don’t know what to do: water again to keep it that way or wait till it dries out a bit ??  Usually I water again so maybe overwatering is the cause … in this cool summer, in a very large black plastic container - maybe leave watering for 2 days, so water every 3 days?
