Salt in sandbox

I use rock salt or table salt in my children 's sandbox as a weed deterrent?

    Do you have a question?
How can you lie there and think of England

If you're asking 'will it deter weeds' then no - it won't. It'll just kill any helpful insects etc, and won't do the children too many favours either  :)

If the weeds are growing in sand, they will be easy to just pull out. We had a lid in our children's sandpit and never had anything growing in there.
  • I don’t think weeds are the worst thing you could find in your children’s sandbox, a cover over the top is the best solution to keep the sand free of any unwanted additions.

Yes - a lid is vital, for obvious reasons... :#

It will make it seem more like the seaside.  But it would wash away if you didn't cover from rain.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

A rolling stone gathers no moss. Ensure children are properly equipped with diggers and tippers and no weeds shall dare grow. Salt will just rust their toys more quickly so best avoided. I wish the sand would stay in our sand pit long enough for weeds to be a problem. I'm amazed the garden doesn't look like a beach already but at least the soil drainage must be improving.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Mine were always quite good with being tidy in the sand pit @wild edges. If only that had continued with regard to their bedrooms...
They were even quite good at putting the lid back on when they were finished. Saved me dashing out whenever it rained to avoid it being a sloppy mud/sand pit instead  :D
