Arbutus Unedo Bonsai turning purple

So I started an air layer on my Arbutus Unedo about a week or 2 ago and noticed today that the leaves are now turning purple, my 1st thought was fungal however it only seems to be the leaves on the air layer branch. Does anyone know what is happening? Is it just reacting to the airlyer cuts?
