Just noticed it on a toadflax, looks and feels fungus-like, but I've never seen it before.

It looks like fasciation to me.

Yes, I agree. It isn't a fungus, it's a malformation.

look what's happening now! The pictures aren't the best cos it's windy today, but it's like a giant pea pod before the peas grow.
